Hotels in DeLand, FL are probably not at the top of your list when planning the ultimate Florida vacation. The town keeps a low profile in comparison to others in Florida for a good reason. How many resort locations say ‘we have something for everyone’? The difference is that in DeLand, it’s true.
Planning a family vacation isn’t easy. Adults need to relax, and that often means getting away from it all. You may look forward to a fishing trip all year, or plan to spend time just sitting and enjoying nature, only to have your relaxation time spoiled because your idea of fun is not the same as the others in your party. While it might be nice to get away alone, it’s not always possible. Vacations where everyone has fun become priceless memories when the kids are grown up and gone.
You’ll find it easy to get back to nature on the St. John’s river or at the Blue Springs State Park, and our fishing is world class. But there’s a lot more to DeLand than waterfront, old Florida charm. DeLand is a cultural center, home to Florida’s oldest University and very first law school – Stetson University, as well as the Museum of Florida Art.
Originally known as ‘Persimmon Hollow’, DeLand was eventually named for its first major landowner, Henry DeLand of New York, who moved to Persimmon Hollow in 1876. Much of the town’s charm stems from its age, but visitors and residents also enjoy the many streets lined with oak trees. These were planted by residents who, in 1886, were promised a reduction in taxes for each tree they planted. Residents planted so many trees that, at one point, the town couldn’t afford to employ its sherrif!
But the appeal of DeLand, Florida doesn’t stop there. Florida has many famous modern attractions, and despite its old world charm, DeLand is close to them all.
If you enjoy fishing, but have small children, your DeLand hotel is close enough to the Orlando theme parks to allow you to spend a couple of days exhausting the kids. Then even they will enjoy quiet days on a boat or quietly fishing. All the family will enjoy the short trip to Kennedy Space Center, and nature lovers will enjoy a visit to the Canveral National shore. But if you, or someone in your family, enjoys action sports, your DeLand hotel can deliver the best that Florida has to offer.
DeLand is the home of SkyDive DeLand, a world class facility for sky divers, and one of the few that is open every day of the year. The International Speedway in Daytona Beach is only a short drive away and ideal for fans of NASCAR. If you enjoy motor bikes, your DeLand, Florida hotel is a great place to stay during Bike Week, an annual 10 day motorcycle event, usually held in early March in nearby Daytona Beach.
Relaxation for some is boredom for others. That’s why the ideal vacation spot should offer a wide variety of activities.
